A pre-shipment inspection is the last practical point to verify whether the approved sample, production files, packing specification, and finished goods agree. For custom game sets, inspection should examine complete packed units as well as individual components, because a correct chess piece or mahjong tile can still fail the customer experience if the case, insert, label, or carton is wrong.

Begin with the approved sample, signed artwork, component list, packaging specification, and purchase order. The inspector needs a clear reference for materials, sizes, colors, logo locations, tile or piece counts, accessory quantities, and carton marks. “Looks similar” is not an adequate pass standard for a private-label product.
Open finished units from different cartons. Confirm that each includes the correct board, tiles or pieces, accessories, rules, inserts, labels, and packaging. Check fit and movement inside the case or box. Then inspect individual components for surface finish, print clarity, material consistency, damage, and quantity.

Packaging inspection should go beyond a visual check. Verify the final pack-out, component movement, seals, labels, master-carton count, and handling marks. Where the product uses natural materials or polished surfaces, confirm protective wrapping and moisture-control requirements appropriate to the shipping route.
Record defects by category, quantity, location, and reference photograph. A useful inspection report distinguishes critical, major, and minor issues and states the agreed corrective action. If a correction changes packaging or components, inspect representative finished units again before authorizing shipment.
The sampling approach should be agreed in advance based on the order, risk level, and product complexity. Regardless of sample size, inspect complete sets from multiple cartons rather than only loose components.
In-process checks can identify issues early, but a final pre-shipment inspection should include the retail package and export carton because those are part of the delivered product.
